Our work today
RISE (Response, Inclusion, Support and Resilience) supports vulnerable families affected by the devastating 2026 flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River and surrounding areas of Rasuwa District. The disaster caused significant loss of life, displacement, damage to houses and infrastructure, and disruption of essential services.
The project provides immediate relief while helping communities recover, restore their livelihoods and strengthen their resilience for the future. It will reach 1,400 of the most severely affected and vulnerable households in Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Wards 1-5, Rasuwa District, and Kispang RM-5 and Bidur Municipality-10 in Nuwakot District.

After experiencing exploitation as a domestic worker in the Middle East, Raj Kumari returned home and chose to rebuild. With support from her women's group, she started goat farming; today, her goats have multiplied, and so has her confidence. She now chairs the group that once supported her, turning struggle into livelihood, leadership, and hope for others.
Living with a physical disability, Punya refused to give up. After strengthening his livelihood through diversified farming, he began helping others like himself, organizing transport and supporting 86 people with disabilities to obtain disability identity cards in Bidur. Once facing barriers himself, Punya is now helping remove them for others.
Coming from difficult circumstances, Bindu turned her tailoring skills into a livelihood and hope for the future. Today, her business supports her family and her children's education, giving her the confidence and independence to shape a better future with her own hands.
With support from the Kamchok Women's Action Group, Renuka turned a small livelihood opportunity into a growing shop, regular income, and monthly savings. Today, she supports her daughter and husband, who lives with a physical disability. What began as a small shop has become a story of strength, responsibility, and hope for a better future.

Our story · Where we began
In 1989, Ramesh Kumar Khadka began working as a dental assistant at Patan Hospital. Every morning, he saw people weighed down by poverty and illness, suffering from diseases that could so easily have been prevented.
What he saw
“Prevention is better than cure.”

Where we began
Every Wednesday, his day off, Ramesh trekked to remote villages with medicines and a few instruments in his backpack. Like-minded people joined hands with him, and in 1993, Share and Care was born.
1994
The beginning of the movement
Dr Dick Harding hands the Pharping clinic to Ramesh, and the weekly walk becomes a clinic of his own to run.
Formally registered on 15 January 1994, with a name that reflected its roots in health care. As the work later grew beyond its medical beginnings, “In Medico” was set aside and the organisation became Share and Care Nepal (SCN).
Training at the Comprehensive Rural Health Project in Jamkhed, India, shifted SCN's approach from charity and welfare to community-based development. From then on, SCN worked with people, not for them.
1994–2005
The beginning of the movement
The Community-Based Health & Development Project (CBHDP) begins: the Pharping clinic's charity-based care becomes a holistic health programme across four VDCs, with Tearfund UK. It runs until 2005.
2002–2008
The years of growth & expansion
Capacity-building across four VDCs in Kathmandu and Lalitpur, covering self-help groups, women's empowerment, farmer productivity and local health institutions, with Lutheran World Relief.
2005–2007
The years of enrichment
Empowerment of 65 women's groups and 6 adolescent girls' groups across six southern VDCs, covering enterprise, rights and a community learning centre, building on a 2002 pilot with 36 groups, with Health and Welfare Ministries, United Methodist Church, USA.
2005–2011
The years of enrichment
Two phases of community health, sanitation and development work across seven VDCs, reaching 3,887 households with stronger government health services, women's empowerment and disaster preparedness, with Tearfund UK, Tearfund Australia and Tearfund New Zealand.
2008–2010
The years of enrichment
18 women's groups and 4 adolescent girls' groups organised for enterprise training, leadership and a community-based learning centre, with CEDAR Fund Hong Kong.
2009–2012
The years of attainment of dreams
Community awareness, survivor reintegration and women's economic empowerment across five VDCs, reaching roughly 10,000 people and reintegrating 70 trafficked women and children, with Tearfund New Zealand.

The Nepal Flash Flood: Response, Inclusion, Support and Resilience for Flood-Affected Families (RISE) Project has been developed in response to the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River and surrounding areas of Rasuwa District.
